Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a highly developed and multi-faceted approach. Also known as insight-oriented therapy, the focus is on the unconscious processes of an individual as they are displayed in present behavior and action. The main objective is to increase self-awareness in the individual and recognition that the past has an influence on current behavior.

A psychodynamic approach allows for examination of unresolved conflicts and symptoms rooted in past experiences. Psychodynamic therapy is the oldest of the modern therapies, based in highly developed and multifaceted theories of human development and interaction. Freud’s psychoanalysis is a specific form and subset of psychodynamic therapy.
