Art Therapy

In some cases, especially working with children and adolescents, individuals’ thoughts and feelings can be difficult to articulate and process. Art therapy is a creative process that allows an individual to discover one’s self, through a less structured channel than other therapeutic methods. This method is particularly helpful with individuals that have limited expression abilities.

Children, specifically, may find art therapy less intimidating, that creates an opportunity for the child and therapist to engage in a dialogue with a feeling that safety is created. This approach can be used to assist young individuals who have gone through different situations, including death of someone known, childhood trauma, and emotional issues. The creative outlet may also facilitate understanding and coping with emotional challenges and behavioral problems.
