Emotion Focus Therapy

Emotion focus therapy is an empirically based approach, underpinned by methods to facilitate acceptance, expression, and regulation of emotion. At the most basic level, emotions tell us what is important in a situation and act as a guide to our needs and actions. By learning more about their emotions, it allows individuals to make sense of their emotions and transform them. This particular therapy develops emotional intelligence and emphasizes the importance of secure relationships.

 

In order to be successful, individuals must reclaim their experience before they can change or be changed by it, much like the principle of “one cannot leave a place until one has arrived.” It is not simply about discovery, but more that an awareness and experience is created and reflected upon.
